As wonderful as we all feel about  this fantastic fall weather, I am worried our trees, shrubs and perennials will pay the price this winter.  Our plants can’t seem to figure out what to do with themselves – keep growing or shut down for the winter.

What this means is that a lot of plants are not really dormant and the more tender ones need a bit of winter protection.  Solution is: layer 6-12″ of mulch (leaves, flax straw or peat moss) around the base of the plant in the morning after a night with below zero temperatures!
